Why This Program Exists
Eight years ago, our lives changed forever.
We discovered we had a sister we had never known. Just six months later, she and her ex-husband were tragically killed in a motorcycle accident, leaving behind four children—ages 8, 10, 11, and 12. Within weeks, those children came to live with us. While they were technically considered foster children by the system, they became our children in every way that mattered.
Walking alongside them meant seeing the foster care system up close—not from the outside, but from inside it. We saw the constant transitions. The rotating social workers. The school changes. The broken promises. The deep disappointment kids carry when things meant to bring comfort fall through.
Six years ago, we moved to a small farm and began raising dairy goats. What we didn’t realize at the time was how healing that life would become. Caring for animals brought structure, purpose, gentleness, and joy into our home. Watching baby goats grow—learning their personalities, celebrating their milestones, and simply showing up for them every day—helped our children heal in ways we never expected. The farm didn’t fix everything, but it gave us something steady. Something real. Something to look forward to.
We know that many foster youth will never have the opportunity to step onto a farm or connect with animals in this way. But we also know how powerful it is for a child to feel connected to something—especially when so much around them is constantly changing.
